ITRI and MIT, Carnegie Mellon University, and Cornell University, nurturing numerous talented individuals at ITRI. In 2013, Dr. Yu founded the Computational Intelligence Technology Center (CITC), focusing on big data, machine learning, and AI technologies. In 2015, he proposed three key strategies: AI-ization of industries, AI industrialization, and AI democratization, which he frequently advocated. The first two strategies have become crucial government policies, while the latter is gradually being realized with the rise of generative AI. Under his leadership, his project teams developed various technologies and transferred them to hundreds of companies, achieving substantial success and receiving numerous prestigious R&D awards. Among them, his team was honored four times at the R&D 100 Awards. Moreover, the team won seven Technology Development Program Achievement Awards from the Ministry of Economic Affairs over five consecutive years, setting an unprecedented record, demonstrating exceptional project performance and significant contributions to industry.From 2016 to 2019, Dr. Yu concurrently served as the Executive Vice President of the Institute for Information Industry (III), helping to facilitate its transformation and founding the Digital Transformation Institute, which supported industrial transformation. In 2018, he established the AI Application Strategy Office at ITRI and subsequently became the AI Chief Strategy Officer, overseeing AI-related technological R&D and industrial promotion across the institute. In addition, he was responsible for ITRI%u2019s corporatization efforts and innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives, continuously injecting new energy into the industry.Technical ContributionsDr. Shiaw-Shian Yu specializes in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and big data.
